Lermoos is situated on the western edge of the basin setting of the Lermooser Moos, which the Loisach river flows through, a former marshland, between the Lechtaler Alps, Ammergauer Alps and the Wettersteingebirge mountains. The origin of the name has not yet been declared. It may come from Larinmoos (empty, unused moss) or also from Lärchenmoos (larch moss).
Biberwier (1.000m), a small village offside mass tourism is set beside it in the region Zugspitz Arena. The family friendly skiing area of Biberwier with 6 lifts and 14km pistes provides absolute snow security through modern snow canons.
