Wien / Vienna 12

The 12th district is set in south east Vienna, beneath the Wien river. It consists of 2 parts: a densily populated area located closer to downtown (Meidling and Gaudenzdorf) and a rather sparsely inhabitated zone at Liesingtal (Altmannsdorf and Hetzendorf). And in between the foothills of the Wienerberg. The borough museum Meidling is the oldest one in Vienna. It was founded in 1923 as Meidling museum of local history and is specialized in the topics handicraft, everyday life and the composers Carl Lorens and Hermann Leopoldi. The museum of heatings exposes heating systems from the 19th century until present. The same building contains the Viennese school museum, showing different class furniture from the 20th century. The fashion collection of the Wien Museum (no public access) consists of more than 20.000 exhibits, mainly ladies' fashion from the 19th and 20th century. The attached special library can be visited from the public. The Alt-Wiener Schnapsmuseum from the distiller family Fische can be visited on request.
Long nights are provided by the legendary disco-club U4, where wellknown celebrities like Falco, Nirvana or Prince performed or just spent their evenings. Alternative: Winter description
